Fourth of July is a time for fireworks, outdoor grilling, sports games, and patriotic revelry. Unfortunately, that combination of elements leads to Independence Day being the most dangerous day of the year to drive.
AAA offers drivers these Fourth of July driving tips to keep families safe while visiting friends and family.
Make sure you have a designated driver or a place to sleep at/near the event you’re attending. If you have no other options, call a cab or Uber. There’s never an excuse to drink and drive.
Pick a route
The less time you spend on the road, the better. Plan your route in advance so you don’t get lost or spend extra time on the road.
Stay alert and avoid areas with a lot of traffic. Also, avoid driving when it’s dark outside, when fireworks are going off and drivers under the influence are heading home.
Be a friend
If someone you know is trying to drive when they’ve been drinking, offer to drive them instead if you’re sober. If you’re not, take their keys. If they really need to get home, call a cab.
We wish everyone a safe and festive Fourth of July! If you’re downtown this weekend, stop by our Chicago dealership and take a look at our new inventory. Also schedule a test drive and help us raise money during our Drive For A Cause campaign! We hope to see you soon.
