For the first time ever, BMW announced that a 7 Series diesel model will be for sale in the U.S. next year.Considering the economic options that Mercedes-Benz is currently selling and Audi is offering later this year, BMW has decided to put together their own set of wheels for that market.

The 7 Series Diesel will deliver 265 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque.  This BMW will be powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six turbodiesel, although it is uncertain how powerful it will be.

In taking a closer look at current models running overseas, the 730d is the least powerful but most fuel efficient.  Delivering 250 horsepower and 413 pound-feet torque, the 730d can get 42 mpg.

The 740d, delivers 313 horsepower, 465 pound-feet of torque, yet offers nearly the same amount of miles per gallon as the 730d, receiving just a mile less at 41 mpg.

The final model, the 750d, is a stand-out.  Keep in mind it returns 36.7 mpg, the 750d delivers 381 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque and can go from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds.  Imagine what it would be like to get behind this wheel.
