BMW i8 Spyder Wins Concept of the Year Award

The cutting-edge BMW i8 Spyder took the top award at the 11th annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards, taking the overall achievement of the 2012 Concept Vehicle of the Year. The plug-in hybrid ranked first among its 34 competitors as the top concept vehicle. The BMW i8 Spyder is considered the most likely to shape the future of the automobile industry.

With a lithium-ion battery, the i8 can run on battery power before the gas engine kicks in. Despite its incredible fuel efficiency, the i8 Spyder has a 131-horsepower electric motor and a turbocharged, 3-cyclinder, 223-horsepower gasoline engine. The i8 Spyder can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in an impressive five seconds.
