The new 2012 BMW 1-Series Coupe was designed to maximize efficiency at the same time offering premium quality. Not an easy balance to accomplish but one that BMW continues to achieve with its prestigious design overall.
The newest feature addition to the 2012 1-Series Coupe is the innovative Air Curtain on the 128i. The Air Curtain technology is the latest in BMW’s aerodynamic technology. The Air Curtain feature utilizes specially-placed slits on the corners of the front bumper that focuses air around the front wheels which reduces turbulence and increases efficiency of the car.
The new 1-series will feature the 128i and 135i models. The 128i will come standard with BMW’s newest 3.0 liter inline-six engine while the 135i comes with a single, twin-scroll turbocharger. Both models have the luxury of BMW’s Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology and a standard 6-speed manual transmission.
You can expect the 128i to crank out 230 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque while the 135i unloads 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The 128i can reach 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds and the 135i clocks in at 5.1 seconds with the 6-speed manual transmissions.
Aesthetic improvements were also made to the 2012 1-Series Coupe. Designers at BMW added the M Sport Body kit (Standard on 135i, optional 128i), new headlight and tail lights, and more refined controls and switches on the interior.
The 1-Series Coupe made its debut in 2008 in the United States and has grown quite a following in the past four years. Overall, the 1-Series is a fun, sporty, rear-wheel drive experience packed into a small car. The powerful engine, smooth turning ability, compact coupe body, coupled with luxurious comfort and technology on the interior equals a seriously fun ride.
