It’s no surprise that Labor Day weekend is a very popular time for travelling. It’s the perfect opportunity to squeeze in one last getaway before summer officially ends. Although the number of travelers is always high during Labor Day weekends, AAA is predicting this year as the highest since the recession in 2008.

AAA Travel projects that 34.1 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home this upcoming Labor Day holiday. This would be a 4.2% increases from the 32.7 million people who traveled last year.

“AAA is forecasting a lift in Labor Day travel this year due to the increasingly positive economic outlook and optimism in the housing market,” said AAA President and CEO Robert L. Darbelnet. “For many Americans, their home is also their biggest asset, as home prices improve in many parts of the country more families are feeling comfortable about traveling this Labor Day holiday.”

With about 85% of the travelers expected to journey by car, be extra careful on the roads this weekend. Whether you are travelling or not, be mindful of the extra traffic on the roadways.
