BMW has announced the launch of the new 2015 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe, a truly ultimate driving machine. For those unfamiliar, an Alpina-badged BMW denotes that the car was hand-finished with select Alpina powertrain components and interior equipment at the Alpina factory in Buchloe, Germany. Though this limits the vehicle’s availability and extends its production schedule by about two weeks, it also improves the overall result by such an amount to make it well worth the cost.
Have a look, for example, at the interior. Alpina-exclusive Lavalina leather covers the hand-stitched steering wheel, an illuminated Alpina logo adorns the door sill trims, and the exclusive Alpina Myrtle Wood trim finish brings the entire cabin to life.
That being said, Alpina badge or not, the B6 Gran Coupe remains a BMW—and that means the real enjoyment is to be experienced by driving it. Under the hood, it boasts a 540-horsepower, 540 lb-ft strong 4.4-liter Alpina Bi-Turbo V8, which feeds the wheels through an 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission and BMW’s famed xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
With a top speed of 198 mph and a 0-60 mph acceleration of only 3.7 seconds, the B6 Gran Coupe is certainly fast. But it’s also smooth, balanced, and refined. It’s almost like driving a supercar but without the hassle of hanging on for dear life at every corner.
How can you get it? The car will debut in North America at the New York International Auto Show this April, and will go on sale right after that. It’ll be available as a special order vehicle with capacity-limited production. Let us know what you think at Perillo BMW.
